Houston's DA is running a one-day clinic to wipe old weed cases off the books

The Harris County District Attorney's Office ran its latest Clean Slate Day on Saturday, September 26, at Fallbrook Church in northwest Houston — a free, walk-in clinic offering on-site expunctions rather than just paperwork and referrals to outside help.

The clinic was open to Harris County residents ages 18 to 30 whose Class A or B misdemeanor cases were dismissed or ended in acquittal, with marijuana possession of up to four ounces called out specifically alongside charges like theft, unlawful weapon carrying, evading arrest, and criminal trespass or mischief.

"Clean Slate Day is about tearing down those obstacles. If you're eligible, we want to help you clear your record, not keep punishing you," DA Sean Teare said in announcing the event.

It's a narrow program — one county, one age band, dismissed or acquitted cases only, not convictions — but it's part of a pattern of DA offices treating marijuana-record relief as routine constituent service rather than a one-time political gesture, which is worth watching for in other counties considering similar clinics.
