Thirty percent of respondents used cannabis for premenstrual mood symptoms, but the study measured use, not whether it works.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine surveyed 703 people, 634 of whom had menstrual cycles in the past year, about what they use for premenstrual mood symptoms. Cannabis was the most commonly reported substance overall at 30 percent, ahead of alcohol at 16.1 percent and psychedelics at 5.9 percent.
Among 167 people diagnosed with premenstrual dysphoric disorder, cannabis use reached 51.5 percent. Respondents also described adjusting how much they used across their cycle.
The caveat is large and the authors say it themselves: this is self-reported use, not evidence of effectiveness. People reach for what is legal and available, which says little about outcomes or safety.
For shops and brands, it points to real demand for cycle-related wellness, but nothing here supports health claims. Clinical trials are the missing piece.
