How live rosin went from connoisseur flex to the fastest-growing category

Two years ago, live rosin was the thing budtenders saved for the back shelf. Today it is one of the fastest-climbing categories across nearly every market Crushed tracks.

The shift is partly cultural and partly mechanical: better presses, cheaper hardware, and a wave of brands competing on quality have pushed the per-gram price into reach for everyday buyers.

Our market data shows the category gaining share in California, Michigan, and Arizona in particular, with single-source hash rosin leading the climb.

The category-level numbers back up what the shelf data shows: rosin products in licensed dispensaries grew roughly 8% in dollar sales year-over-year, with the number of rosin SKUs on shelves up about 11% over the same stretch, according to BDSA's tracking. Average retail price for rosin extract formats sits around $31 — still a premium over most other concentrate formats, but no longer the connoisseur-only price tag it was a couple of years back.

Zoom out to the whole solventless category and the growth rate gets steeper: solventless concentrates broadly are on pace for a compound annual growth rate north of 20%, with live rosin specifically posting closer to 35% year-over-year growth within the concentrate aisle — among the fastest-moving subcategories in the entire market.

The shift isn't staying contained to dabs, either. It's spreading into edibles: roughly 68% of solventless-edible buyers say they've moved away from distillate-based gummies in the past year, and live rosin gummies are the preferred solventless format for about 71% of that group — a sign that "solventless" is becoming a format preference in its own right, not just a concentrate-aisle niche.

None of that has dented the premium positioning. Live rosin still commands a meaningfully higher price than distillate or live resin, and the buyers driving this growth are explicitly paying up for extraction method and purity, not shopping it down to a commodity.
