New York's Cannabis Control Board approved a research license for a trial of VER-01, an oral THC solution, in people with chronic lumbosacral radiculopathy, better known as sciatica. Eligible patients have not gotten enough relief from non-opioid pain medications.
The sponsor, Vertanical GmbH, will compare the drug with placebo, then check whether relief holds up over time and how safe it is long term. The lead site is Upstate Clinical Research Associates in New York, with other sites across the country. Reporting did not give sample size, dose, duration or a start date.
Placebo-controlled work like this is what state programs and regulators keep saying is missing. It is a drug-development study, though, not a verdict on dispensary products. For operators, it is a reminder that medical claims will come from trials like this one, not from menu copy.
