Grown Rogue International said on October 22 that its Illinois partner, SEA Craft, made its first product deliveries to select dispensaries this week, putting the Grown Rogue brand on Illinois shelves. The release does not name the stores.
The opening lineup is six strains: Fumez, a Rainbow Runtz and Gas Planet cross; Jungle Juice #4; Pink Passion Fruit; Zour Strawz; Deep Space; and California #10. Everything comes from SEA Craft's facility in Dwight, where cultivation restarted in June after state approval on June 5. Partnership agreements were finalized in March, and the site employs about 50 people, including former PharmaCann staff.
Scale is modest for now. The initial flowering canopy is about 5,000 square feet, with expansion to roughly 10,000 underway, and the company says the ramp depends on demand, performance and regulatory requirements. Grown Rogue also operates in Oregon, Michigan and New Jersey and has Minnesota and New York launches planned.
What to watch: this is a company press release, so supply and pricing are claims until shelves confirm them. Illinois is a crowded, price-compressed market, and a new brand with limited canopy will have to earn repeat orders on quality. Check menus in the Chicago area over the next few weeks for whether it sticks.
