Strain Spotlight
Blue Dream Is Still #1 in California. It's Just Not Flower Anymore.
America's most iconic strain moved $5.8M in California over the last 30 days — but for the first time, most of that came off the shelf as a vape cartridge, not a bud.

-33.85% L4W vs P4W
Blue Dream is still the best-selling named strain in California — $4.27M in estimated sales over the trailing period, 2.01% of the state's entire market, roughly double the next name on the list. The only row ahead of it in the raw rankings isn't a strain at all: it's a 29.49% bucket of product whose menus never recorded which cultivar was in the jar.
The trajectory is another matter. Sales are down 33.85% comparing the last four weeks against the four before them. The chart shows why that number is less dramatic than it sounds — the week of June 8 spiked to $1.99M, well above the $0.9M-$1.2M band the strain has otherwise held all spring, and the decline since is mostly the return to trend after that spike. The four most recent weeks sit between $907K and $946K, which is soft but flat, not falling.
What has genuinely changed is the format. Blue Dream's California sales are now 46.95% vape, 25.37% flower and 23.18% pre-roll. The most recognizable flower name in American cannabis does less than a quarter of its business as flower in its home state. Distillate carts and infused pre-rolls carry the name now, and the plant those products came from is increasingly incidental to the label on the box.
STIIIZY alone accounts for 17.74% of everything sold under the Blue Dream name in California, with PLUGPLAY at 5.92% behind it — both vape-first brands. That is the whole story in two numbers: a legacy sativa cross from the mid-2000s has become, functionally, a flavor SKU on somebody else's hardware.
